Hello I’m Joy…
Interested in Hypnobirthing? Want to know how to be a good birth-partner? Want a tailored antenatal course or information on using aromatherapy in labour then read on!
I am an experienced childbirth educator, hypnobirthing practitioner and aromatherapy for birth teacher and have supported many couples and mums-to-be for over 15 years in preparing for the birth of their babies.
I facilitate antenatal classes for both the NCT and a global online antenatal provider and pride myself on being able to offer families non-judgement, caring support and evidenced based information so they can make informed decisions about their birth preparation and labour experience.
I am happy to run fully insured small group online session or offer 1:1 support. Please get in touch if you are interested. Giving birth is a right of passage and something that you will remember for ever. My aim is to help women and their partners so they can approach birth feeling calm, positive and confident.
The courses are facilitated over Zoom which is free to download on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Hypnobirthing practice can start from about 30 weeks. It is possible to start only a couple of weeks before your EDD but the longer you have to practice, the easier you many find it
It is a good idea for the person who is going to be with you during the birth, to come to the course. It helps you to feel supported and at the same time, it gives them invaluable skills and knowledge to help you during labour and, of course, they then feel so much more a part of the process. You are more than welcome to attend by yourself if you would prefer
NO! Forget anything on television, hypnosis is not magic! A hypnotic state is something we all enter into several times a day. Have you ever driven the car, arrived at your destination and can’t, for the life of you, remember how you got there? That is a hypnotic state. It is not the same as being asleep or unconscious and the only person who has control over the situation is you.
A hypnotic state is induced by encouraging you to focus on your breathing and your body which enables you to switch off the thinking part of your brain. Whilst you are in a relaxed state of mind, i.e. in a hypnotic state, there is direct access to the subconscious where we can replace existing negative beliefs with powerful positive ones e.g. ‘As a woman you have a powerful ability to birth your baby’. Because these suggestions are being made to the subconscious mind, they are more likely to be accepted by you than if the suggestions were given to your conscious mind. If at any point you become uncomfortable or don’t feel safe anymore you can simply open your eyes and you will come out of it
Even if you do have to have a medically managed birth, it is still the birth of your child and whatever the circumstances, relaxed and calm is always going to be be a million times better than stressed and scared
